more holidays

Because I'm still in mourning over the end of National Be Kind to Writers and Editors Month and the fact that none of my authors sent me chocolate, my friend has sent me a list of upcoming literary holidays for me to celebrate.

  • American Magazine Month Stop by the newsstand and pick up a periodical, or subscribe. Sponsor: Magazine Publishers of America
  • Cookbook Month The Julia Child Cookbook Awards are given out during this month of October. Sponsor: International Association of Culinary Professionals
  • Cooking, Crafts, and Home Books Month Celebrate the authors and publishers of books on food, diet, crafts, hobbies, collectibles, antiques, home decorating, home repair, beauty, and fashion. Sponsor: Book Marketing Update
  • National Dessert Month Celebrate with desserts. Get rid of the blahs. Sponsor: Martini and Rossi Asti Spumante (Okay this isn'’t literary, but who doesn'’t want to celebrate dessert?)
  • National Sarcastics Awareness Month (1) For those who realize they are sarcastic and want to get it under control; (2) for those who are sarcastic and want to get better at it; and (3) for those who are forced to live or work with people who are sarcastic. Sponsor: Sarcastics Anonymous

And just for kicks
  • Pet Peeve Week October 9-15
  • Dictionary Day October 16 (I'm not sure if we are supposed to buy dictionaries or read them on that day . . .)

I'm curious how much chocolate you sent your authors....

Heaps. I mean, I totally bought out the entire stock of three Mrs. Cavanaugh's stores and was put on a watchlist prohibiting me from entering any of the others. Apparently Utahans hold their chocolate sacred and it's considered a crime against the community to overstock on chocolate.

Haha!

And I thought that was only true of ice cream.

Apparently you have never been near the fudge counter in the BYU Bookstore during Women's Conference.

Any conference (including, notably, EFI) is a good reason to stay off BYU campus.

True. And some conferences, notably Education Week are a good reason to stay out of Provo/Orem.
