housewarmed

Having finally finished and turned in Coworker's project, I am now allowed to blog again. Woo hoo!

As previously announced, we had our housewarming this past weekend. The closer we got to the day, the greater the realization that I had that I had not invited all the people I intended to. (I didn't even remember to invite my uncle who is my insurance agent until the afternoon of the warming.) If you are one of said people, I apologize for not actually writing down my list of people to invite so that I could check you off.

The housewarming turned out well. This is not to say that there wasn't stress and tension leading up to it. Dec and I had different ideas about our expectations for the party.

First, we had a disagreement about the theme--he wanted a Hawaiian luau theme whereas I wanted a Come See Our New Home theme. In the end, I knew that if I were passive/aggressive enough, I would have my way. And by passive/aggressive, I mean not pestering him to work on the event because his procrastination could work to my favor. Consequently, we had a lovely Come See Our New Home theme. And everyone had a good time.

Second, Dec wanted the food and the seating out in the garage and driveway. I understand this desire, considering that our house is small and the garage is nearly the same size as the house, but without any of those pesky interior walls to cut off the space. However, I figured we were throwing a housewarming and not a garagewarming. Again, I let my passive/aggressive skills go to work and helped him take the bunk beds out to the garage for painting on Monday when I knew he wouldn't have time to finish them by Saturday. (They're still not done, and the kids are kinda sorta going to need them on Friday, but I guess we'll see what happens.) So with the garage cluttered with boxes we still haven't unpacked and bunk beds that weren't painted, we couldn't put people out there. Which means that we had a lovely event with people mingling in the kitchen and on the front porch. It was absolutely delightful.

I don't think the housewarming was what Dec wanted, which is unfortunate. I do understand where he's coming from, considering that he does parties for a living and he feels that this is a reflection on him, but I doubt anyone else saw it that way. It was an enjoyable evening for people we knew to gather and eat food and all sorts of happiness like that.

Now, I realize that some of you weren't able to attend. So I took pictures of the house prior to the housewarming for your benefit. Enjoy.

Love the interior colors. My husband and I are planning on painting our future someday-house a lot like that.

I'm sorry I missed the housewarming ( crazy weekend )... good thing housewarmings are at the start of something — so I still have time to visit.

A lovely event, although I must agree with Dec on one point: everything is better with the hula.

I had a great time, though I must admit I warmed your lawn more than your house.

For the record, I warmed Your Mom's lawn.

It was a very good party. Good friends, good times. Dec should know that what reflected on him was the comfort and happiness of everyone there, and that is what makes a successful party.

Love, love, loved the paint in the kitchen and hallway!

How CUTE is that house??!?!?!? Sorry, I know cute isn't a guy-word and shouldn't be used in describing anything that belongs to guys, but dang it's just so cute!!!!

I hate to use the 'f' word, but I think you're going to force me to. It's Fabulous! I just showed J the pictures of your house... I can tell the gears are churning right now. I'm sure you guys have sparked some flair for our new home with those pics.

Mandi: It is perfectly fine to say our house is cute. It's only 1200 sq feet, so it's little. Little things can be cute. And I don't have an aversion to that word. :)

Mikey: I'm glad we could be a bit inspirational. Coworker and ButtBabe also said they were going to steal our inspiration. I'm all for cool houses and paint jobs.
