You may overlap with other challenges. You may change your list at any time.

  • Hard Love, by Ellen Wittlinger
Of the 37 award recipients, I've read 19. I know that this is just one over half the titles, but still . . . none too shabby. Unfortunately, the remaining titles have a tendency to be titles I've chosen not to read. Regardless, I'll choose six titles to read. (Of course, in doing so, I'm clutching to the "change your list at any time" clause in that four or five books will be added to the list in January.)

I'm also hoping that I will fare better at this challenge than I did with that miserable flop of an experiment known as Edgy's Book Club.

Edgy's Printz Award Challenge
  • Kit’s Wilderness, by David Almond
  • Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy, by Gary D. Schmidt
  • Heart to Heart: New Poems Inspired by Twentieth-Century American Art, by Jan Greenberg Abrams
  • A Northern Light, by Jennifer Donnelly
  • John Lennon: All I Want Is the Truth, a Photographic Biography, by Elizabeth Partridge
  • Surrender, by Sonya Hartnett

I dig. I've read:

-First Part Last
-Keesha's House
-The Earth, My Butt, And Other Big Round Things
-Postcards from No Man's Land
-Hole in My Life
-A Step From Heaven (I think)
-True Believer
-Angus, Thongs, etc.
-Monster

I know, I suck. But there are several on the list I've wanted to read anyway, so here's my challenge list:

1. Speak
2. Freewill
3. House of the Scorpion
4. American Born Chinese (which I've actually checked out before, but didn't read)
5.
6.

I'll hold two spots for this year's books. Are there any I'm missing that I absolutely must read as per Edgy?

I think Speak, House, and American Born are all musts, so good pick there. If you don't see anything added to the list in January that you want to read, I would look at I Am the Messenger and The Book Thief. I don't find that they feel YA to me, and I acknowledge that they're a bit slower to get into, but they're well worth the read. I would also look at An Abundance of Katherines. Personally, I liked Looking for Alaska, but I acknowledge that many people just don't like that one.

I'm not going to officially align myself with this challenge, but I will read some. Here's where I stand:

2007

* American Born Chinese (will undoubtedly read someday as I devour literary comics--next time I see it at the library, I won't wait till later)
* The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation; v. 1: The Pox Party (I'm intrigued by this book but need to read more about it before I say anything)
* The Book Thief (I know this will be good, but I can't get excited; I'll read it if someone buys me a copy for Christmas (now out in paperback!))

2006

2005

2004

2003

* The House of the Scorpion (if this is the book I think it is, then I'm interested)

2002

* A Step From Heaven (if this is the book I think it is, then I'm interested in it too)
* Heart to Heart: New Poems Inspired by Twentieth-Century American Art (oo! sounds jaimie!)

2001

* Kit’s Wilderness (I like another of Almond's books)
* Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (ugh; could not get through this)

2000

* Monster (just barely read it--Im' counting it towards my possible six)
* Skellig (good book--it's on my shelf)
* Speak (I have this in my school collection--I was planning on reading it this school year anyway)

For what it's worth.

Well, it looks like I'm topping out at two (three if we count Monster), so: FAIL. Alas. And I just read your review of White Darkness and you totally sold me on it.
