Book of a Thousand Days

Book of a Thousand Days
by Shannon Hale
YA Fantasy. 306 pp.
Bloomsbury. 2007.

This book is based on the fairy tale "Maid Maleen," as recorded by the Grimm brothers, though I took many liberties with the original in my quest to find Dashti's story. Although I invented the Eight Realms, the setting was inspired in part by medieval Mongolia.
I actually finished reading this book a week ago. I haven't written a review for it yet because I just haven't really had any strong feelings one way or another about it. Like her other book, I enjoyed Hale's writing. Diary form works really well for the story.

So I guess I'd recommend the book. Personally, though, I'm anxiously awaiting the nexy Bayern book.
